Artificial turf grass / synthetic turf grass comes in an almost endless variety of choices.  If Home Turf doesn’t offer a type of artificial grass you like, then no one does, and you’re very hard to please!  They may all look like “green grass” to the untrained eye but as experts in the San Diego artificial turf business we see very distinct differences and can point them out to you.  Synthetic turf grass is manufactured in so many different forms for several reasons.  One reason is to create a turf product that is visually appealing to everyone.  Since not all of us have the same opinion, artificial turf fibers come in many colors, shades, mixtures, textures, or if you will, ‘flavors.’  Just as they make Coke and Pepsi, Sprite and 7 Up, Bud Light and Miller Light, you get the picture – they make artificial turf to visually please just about anyone.  Besides the visual aspect, artificial turf grass must often also serve a specific purpose.  Sometimes function is more important than form.  For pets, for example, there are certain varieties of artificial turf that are better suited to the rough wear and tear that a dog can dish out (and drainage requirements) but they may not be your favorite looking varieties.  Function over form is sometimes the rule.  Another example might be for playground artificial turf.  In this application you might consider a thinner and less expensive artificial grass product and spend the savings on an underlying shock pad for safety.  Artificial turf products are similar to carpet in many ways.  Synthetic turf products are rated by what is called “face weight.”  Artificial turf “face weight” refers to the weight of artificial grass fibers (not including the turf backing) per square yard of an artificial turf grass product.  San Diego Home Turf sells and installs the thickest and most plush synthetic turf lawn products on the market. 

Be sure you do your best to compare “apples to apples” when comparing prices different turf companies charge.  San Diego Home Turf sells only American made artificial turf grass products.  Beware of many companies selling inferior Chinese made synthetic grass products.  Even the untrained eye can usually spot these cheap Chinese Artificial Turf products by their shiny fibers and rough black shiny backing.  They often come in odd widths.  Most American made artificial turf products are tufted into fifteen foot wide rolls.

Artificial Turf # 2 – Home Turf Lite Evergreen Color

This is also a 48 oz. face weight artificial turf grass product. Turf fibers are 100% polyethylene – both the tall fibers and the thatch layer. Pile height of turf fibers is 1.56” tall.

Artificial Turf # 3 – Home Turf Centipede Blend (Multi-Colr)

 

Text Box: Pictured above is Home Turf Centipede Blend (Multi-Color). This is a much thicker version of the artificial turf # 1. This is a 70 oz. face weight aritficial turf grass product. Turf fibers are made of 100% polyethylene – both the tall fibers and the thatch layer. This has always been one of the most popular turf varieties we offer. The fibers of this artificial turf grass product feel a bit stiffer and more resilient than many of our other turf varieties. Pile height is 1.56” tall. A great value for certain!

Artificial Turf # 4 - Home Turf Zoysia

This artificial turf grass variety is manufactured to replicate the looks of the real grass variety called ‘Zoysia.’ The blades of grass, or turf fibers in this variety are very fine. They look like the ‘fancy’ grasses that many people are familiar with. This artificial turf grass variety comes in a 45 oz. face weight or a 65 oz. face weight (pictured is 65 oz.) This product is one of the very few on the market which requires absolutely no (0) infill!! This makes a great surface for super high traffic areas or unusually heavy use golf applications. Pile height is 1.56” tall. This turf variety only comes in the single color green (Evergreen).

Artificial Turf # 5 – Home Turf Nylon Putting Green

   

Text Box: Pictured above is Home Turf Nylon Putting Green. This is a very low maintanance artificial turf putting green surface. This turf provides a true roll for putting and requires absolutely no maintenance. This artificial putting green surface also requires very little sand infill. Home turf offers another artificial turf grass putting gren surface made of poly proplyene which requires regular maintenance (rolling with a weighted sod roller to keep turf fibers down). This variety is perfect for the homeowner who doesn’t want to chip the ball onto the putting green surface from more than ten feet away. For chipping from larger distances, we recommend our taller variety. This product has a 38 oz. face weight but shouldn’t be compared with artificial turf grass lawn or putting green fringe turf grass varieties. This very dense turf product is .56” tall.

Artificial Turf Product # 6 – Home Turf Playground Pad for Use Under Artificial Grass and Above Aggregate Base

Text Box: This product is 1” thick and made of recycled packaging material. It provides added safety aginst drops and falls on playgrounds. It also provides excellent drainage below the artificial turf grass layer and above the aggregate base. For an additional price per square foot you can install this under your artifical lawn and feel like you’re walking on the moon! With all the money you’ll save from installing a Home Turf synthetic lawn, why not treat yourself to the best. This feels like walking on the most plush carpet padding you’ve ever set foot on. This product is a must have for the neurotic, safety obsessed parent. Once again – just kidding!

 

Text Box: Pictured above is Home Turf Lite. This is a 48 oz. face weight artificial turf grass product. Pile height is 1.56” tall. This turf variety has a multi-colored fiber mixture to give a more realistic look. Turf fibers are made of 100% polyethylene – both the tall fibers and the thatch layer (turf thatch is the shorter, curly fibers that help stabilize the taller fibers and reduce the need for infill such as rubber, silica sand, or acrylic coated sand). This polyethylene thatch layer is thicker than most artificial turf with nylon thatch. This variety is often used on artificial turf grass playground surfaces because the product is much less expensive than the thicker varieties which helps offset the cost of the underlying safety padding for playgrounds. It’s also a popular turf for people who are cheap. Just kidding!
